The Glorious Splendor of Ancient China

The Chinese culture, which features a long history of profound nature, pays great attention to the harmonious relation between human beings and nature. Much emphasis is also laid upon the moral cultivation and temper refinement as well as the spiritual enlightenment on the part of the individual.

For some 5,000 years, China has been under the influence of a holistic system of thoughts, which is composed of Confucianism initiated by Confucius and Mencius, Mohism by Mozi, Taosim by Laozi and Zhuangzi, as well as Buddhism with Chinese characteristics, shaping the traditional Chinese ideology, along with the philosophies of “Yijing”, or “Book of Changes”.
Other early medical texts have also provided a paradigm for the scientific & systematic development of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is under the direction of this paradigm that the human body life process has been studied and healed by traditional Chinese medicine practitioners for thousands of years and incomparably rich experiences and knowledge of medicine have been accumulated.

Huangdi Neijing, also known as Yellow Emperor’s Classics of Internal Medicines, appeared during the Han Dynasty. It is the most exhaustive collection of early Chinese medical texts, in which medical theories, diagnosis, and treatment methods of Traditional Chinese Medicine are systematically covered.

Shanghan Zabinglun, or Treatise on Exogenous Febrile and Miscellaneous Diseases, laid a foundation for the development of clinical medicine in China and has until today been recognized by the academy as the most influential clinical classic. Most of the prescriptions listed in the book are precise and appropriate, with many of them proven by modern science.

Other classics include “Thousand Golden Prescriptions for Emergencies”, Bencao Gangmu, the most complete and comprehensive medical book ever written in the history of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and “Clinical Authentication of Seasonal Febrile Diseases”
